I adore vintage frames. I especially love ones that have intricate details. At auctions, they are one thing I always have to bid on. Even my brother and husband can spot a “Rachel frame” to bid on, just in case I miss seeing one come across the auction block. Always nice to have my boys watching out for me. 🙂
Frames are such a great product to reuse. They usually don’t get too much abuse, so they can easily be given new life with just a new image or a coat of spray paint.
I recently “repurposed” these vintage frames for a client. These first pictures were taken after I had already put one coat of spray-painted primer on.
The frames did not have glass in them. The images were printed on a sturdy cardboard, and were not warped…score! So, I just painted right over them. I put 2 coats of primer, and 2 coats of glossy white over the entire piece. Then I used acrylic paint to create the painting on the inside of the frame. I started with a light taupe to set the image off from the white frame.
The images are for a grey bathroom with a fuschia ceiling. Yes, you read that right… a fuschia ceiling! {by the way, the risk was totally worth it – it turned out stunning} I painted some dainty fuschia flowers to pull down the color from the ceiling & gave them a grey base.
Then, just a swift flick of the brush with black to give the flowers some stems.
And here they are ready to hang on the wall!

Just can’t beat a one-of-a-kind, custom art piece… especially one that costs less than buying from the store! Love!
