Rachel’s 2014 Trend Predictions: Part 1

We can never know what the future will hold.  However, I feel confident in saying…2014 will bring great design.

I am so excited and joyful about the clients I am currently working with.  There are fabulous updates & remodels happening right in the Norfolk area!

Now is the time (in stores & at home), where we just packed away our Christmas decorations, and we’re ready for something new.  From a refresh, to a rearrange, to an all-out remodel – now is a great time!  It’s like “Christmas”, after Christmas in stores right now!  Have you walked through Target or Hobby Lobby lately?  So many new things on the shelves!  I get so excited to see new decor (especially locally) – I am always inspired by a fresh display.

Right now is also a great time to do some online shopping.  Many stores have a great selection of clearance to make way for the fabulous, new collections they are rolling out.  Some of my favorites: West Elm, Pottery Barn, Ballard Designs, & Anthropologie.

Anyway, I’m getting off topic here.  2014: great design.  I thought it would be fun to make a few predictions for 2014.  Here are some trends I think we will be sure to see in 2014.  Maybe even a few tidbits you would love to incorporate into your home for a fresh look this year!

1.  Animals

Yep, it’s not just owls anymore.  Stores are rolling out with wonderful animal-like accessories.  I’m a fan.  I’ve been saying for several months that I thought the next animal trend would be either foxes or rabbits.  I’m seeing deer, foxes, rhinos, rabbits, birds, dogs… animals are in!  And who doesn’t love animals?  I love the whimsy of animal accents!

2. White

Target just introduced a new line called “White & Natural”.  Rooms adorned with whites & neutrals have been hot for a while – and it doesn’t appear that the trend will cool off anytime soon.  Think: white, wood grain, rope, linen, jute, cotton – gorgeous layers of milky & woodsy textures.

3. Geometric Patterns

In 2013, we saw chevron and ikat everywhere.

I predict 2014 will continue with bold, geometric patterns.  Will the trend be tribal, mod, floral, lattice?  My hope: all things bold… all of them!

4. Beautiful Organization

Let’s admit it.  We have stuff.  Lots of stuff.  Too much stuff.  I know I’m guilty.  2014 is the year to get organized, and do it beautifully!  Pottery Barn has always been a leader in beautiful organization systems, and I think we’ll continue to see fabulous solutions to keep our things in order.  We’re all more relaxed, productive, & happy in clean, organized spaces.  From wonderful wall organizers to beautiful baskets, 2014 is the year for gorgeous order.
