I {Rachel} received my Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from UNL in 2009. I am so thankful for four years of training focused on floor plan layout design, plan reading, collaboration with architects and builders, and adding wonderful concepts, colors, and composition [of furniture, art, etc.] to these spaces.

I recently had an inspiring and wonderful conversation with a dear friend. She recently built a new home, and is in the final stages of decorating {and getting all those boxes unpacked}! Some of the things that she said that really stuck out to me were:
“It was a struggle to take time off of work to meet the contractors at our home to explain how we wanted things done – or even answer a phone call to explain over the phone something that needed to be explained on the site.”
“I would have loved to have a designer to work with as we went through the building process – someone who I know is on the same page as me & has our best interest in mind. Some decisions have to be made on the spot, and having someone there who has design knowledge is priceless.”
“How awesome would it be to sit down with a designer once a week to discuss progress on the house. I could stay involved in the process – she could update me on everything that has been done & what decisions need to be made next. I get to be completely involved in the process, but don’t have the headache of being overwhelmed or surprised by anything.”
Wow – how awesome. I’ve spent a lot of time being trained in design, and practicing my skills from one project to the next – but nothing beats the words of a friend to remind me of how helpful, inspiring, and important the skills of an interior designer really are!
